MAKATI CITY, Philippines - Jasmine Apolinario, entrepreneur and owner of Jasmine's Laundry Shop based in Thaddeus St. MRV Pasig City, earned her Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification last July 22, 2016, last day of Six Sigma PH's 17th Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program for Service Industry. Jasmine shared the highs and lows of her project, how she addressed the roadblocks, and inspired the graduating Green Belt Class to complete their projects to get certified.
To be certified in Lean Six Sigma, one has to complete an actual Lean Six Sigma project and apply process improvement tools, methodology, and techniques learned in class. "That's one reason why companies give high value to Certified Lean Six Sigma individuals. One does not just attend a program and receive his certification but has to successfully apply and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes. One has to earn his Lean Six Sigma certification," Rex Tuozo, Master Black Belt of Six Sigma PH said. "If you attend our Lean Six Sigma programs, unlike other training providers, you get continuous support after the program, for no additional cost. You'll be assigned a Black Belt to help you complete your project," Tuozo added.
The goal of Jasmine's project is to reduce the number of days not meeting their target output of 40kgs from 73% to 33% in 5 months. "Data collection was our first challenge. As a small business, we're not used to identifying and measuring KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)," Jasmine noted. After implementing process improvement tools and the DMAIC methodology, the number of days not meeting the target output of 40kgs was significantly reduced from 73% to 4%. The cycle time from tagging to folding was reduced from 6.61 hours to 1.32 hours. The number of KGs received (capacity) increased by 29.53%, and a projected annualized cost savings of ₱112,752.00 attributed to action items including a new formulation of laundry detergent, a revised schedule of washing, and lower consumption of water.
"I love to learn. I had been wanting to attend a Lean Six Sigma class years back and I'm glad I attended Rex's program. He made Lean Six Sigma practical and effective," Jasmine said in her testimonial. "To the graduating Lean Six Sigma Green Belts, 'Tenacity' is one of the most important traits of a Lean Six Sigma professional. Always keep that eagerness, that fire, that desire to bring positive change in your organizations. The Lean Six Sigma certification is just the icing on the cake," Jasmine added.
Jasmine's Laundry Shop is located at #23 Thaddeus St. MRV, Pasig City. 0917-914-5437 & 0938-176-2478.
