Makati BPO PM Saves ₱19M, Earns Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification

MAKATI CITY, Philippines- November 25, 2016, the Last day of Six Sigma PH’s MEGA Green Belt class, The Philippines have gained yet another Black Belt to reshape the business processes in the image of excellence.



Arthur Flores Jr., once again, displayed his mastery in the field of process improvement by applying Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies to decrease the processing time and process defects which resulted in a whopping 19,353,270 Pesos worth of revenue increase.



In his brief testimonial, Arthur urged the graduating wave to pursue their certification by sharing how being a certified Green Belt boosted his career, how he gained respect from his boss and peers, and this time, shares the story of his success in the pursuit of his Black Belt Certification.



​Considering his young age, who wouldn’t be awed by his accomplishments? We ourselves were quite inspired by his speech, and of course, we couldn’t let the good news be confined in the walls of the venue; it had to be shared! So, further, this article is our one-on-one interview with The Philippines’ latest Black Belt. Go ahead, gather some tips, and Be Inspired!

      Q. What prompted you to take the Lean Six Sigma Workshop? 

      A. I have taken the GB program in 6sigma PH and also got certified prior to taking the BB program.

        I already learned a lot in the GB program but I yearned for more knowledge regarding root cause analysis. Because I told myself that if I can already do things I have done using GB methodologies, what more can a BB do?

     Q. What Prompted you to start your project?

         A. I always listen to the feedback of the stakeholders, whether in a formal environment or not, to know their pain areas. After capturing their pain area, that is when I will pour my time into getting the root cause of the problem being encountered.

      Q. What was your project about?

     A. My project mainly revolves around increasing the average staff productivity. This was relevant to the stakeholders because data shows that by increasing the staff productivity with their current task at hand, revenue also goes up.
          This may sound basic but on the line of business, I conducted the project with, not all of their process shares the same logic that is why I encourage all practitioners to never defer on their data or you might end up doing something not so relevant.

      Q. What was it like for you, starting up and executing your own project?

     A. This is my second project using a formal Lean Six Sigma structure so I got a little bit of the hang of how I should start it.
      I will never deny, however, that there are major hurdles along the way. One of them is that the action items will disrupt their usual routine even though it sounds simple on paper. This is when the Change Management Tool taught by Sir Rex did its wonders.

      Q. What were the results of your project?

       A. The project left a good impression on the stakeholders. This was a problem that everyone had a hard time figuring out and to everyone’s amazement, the simple action items implemented solved it.
      The solutions were so practical that it was overlooked by everyone. This is one of Sir Rex’s principles and it sure does its magic.

     Q. What was the impact of your project on your company?

    A. 6sigma projects are mainly centered on cost savings. What I like most about this project is that I was able to give two options for my stakeholders in terms of financial impact: They can opt for cost savings through FTE reduction, or retain the same number of people leading to higher income generation.
      This, I think, is going to be a more prominent structure in the near future as the Lean Six Sigma market increases and adds more dimension to its ever-evolving toolbox.
    The stakeholders opted for the latter which then yielded to PHP 19,353,270.24 increase in revenue.

      Q. What was the impact of being a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt on you as an individual?

      A. Getting certified as a Black Belt obviously opened a lot of opportunities for me. What they say in 6sigma PH is true. You will get a boost in your career, you get recognized by your colleagues, and you become more valuable in the business market.
         Efforts are no longer enough nowadays to fast-track your career. You need to get a boost; you need to be on the highway; and 6sigma is one of your best means to be there.

     Q. What would be your message to those who are currently taking/planning to take the Green Belt Program or those who are currently conducting their own projects?

      A. Sir Rex, The Six Sigma Guy, has said this many times and I will simply repeat it. One of the greatest assets of a Lean Six Sigma practitioner is perseverance. We do not quit. Challenges will be there but your tools and methodologies will help you overcome them.
       Follow the 6sigma circuit and you will never get lost.
     Q. If there’s anything else that you’d like to share about your experience, what would it be?

       A. I said this when I got certified, and allow me to say it again.
           This stuff works!
          You may stumble, and you may have setbacks but don’t be overwhelmed by them. You have your Master Black Belt Rex and Black Belts to help you out. No problem is too big to solve with all the practitioners of 6sigma PH that have your back.
