Green Belt Certified De La Salle CSB Academic Adviser's Tips for Lean Six Sigma Aspirants

MAKATI CITY, Philippines - Henry DV Castro, Full-time Faculty-Academic Adviser at the prestigious De La Salle College of St. Benilde received his Green Belt Certification on the 24th of May 2019. On the last day of the Green Belt Workshop with 34 Green Belt aspirants, he shared his experiences while traveling the road to his certification.
According to him, completing his project was not easy and there were times when he almost gave up but his intention to improve their existing process and eliminate appeals or defects in approving the thesis made him push himself harder.
The aspirants were lucky to have been given tips and ideas on how they could complete their projects. Aside from those, he also gave important advice to them.

THERE WAS AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE PROCESS AND LOWER OR ZERO VALID APPEALS "REJECTS"
Q. What was it like for you, starting up and executing your own project?
IT WAS A BIG CHALLENGE AND LEAN SIX SIGMA IS THE BEST TOOL THAT I USED AND IMPLEMENTED TO ACCOMPLISH THE THESIS COORDINATOR TASK
Q. Among/Aside from the Action Items that were done, what were the key elements that led to the success of your project?
THE CONTROL PHASE IN DMAIC - WHEREIN THE PROCESS SHOULD BE DOCUMENTED AND UPDATED/INNOVATED

THE THESIS PROCESS HAS IMPROVEMENTS AND THE FACULTY PANEL HAS A MATRIX/RUBRIC TO SERVE AS A GUIDE AND ZERO OR LOWER VALID APPEALS 'REJECTS" IN THESIS PAPER AND DEFENSE
Q. What was the impact of being a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt on you as an individual / professional?
HONESTLY- THE LEAN SIX SIGMA CERTIFICATION WAS ONLY SECONDARY BECAUSE THE RESULT OF THE IMPROVEMENT IN THE THESIS PROCESS AND LOWER VALID APPEALS IS AN ACHIEVEMENT AND THE LEAN SIX SIGMA TOOL REALLY HELPED ME TO BE MORE CONFIDENT IN THE THESIS BUSINESS PROCESS
Q. What would be your message to those who are currently taking/planning to take the Green Belt
Program or those who are currently conducting their own projects?
MY ADVICE IS TO KEEP THE LEAN SIX SIGMA NOTES BY HEART AND APPLY THEM TO IMPROVE PROCESS TIME AND ELIMINATE DEFECTS LEAN SIX SIGMA IS THE BEST TOOL IF YOU HAVE PLANS TO CONDUCT A PROJECT.

MY EXPERIENCE IN THE DE LA SALLE BENILDE LAB ROOM IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE THESIS PROCESS IS A MIRROR OF THE LEAN SIX SIGMA EXERCISE - DOING THE REAL THING AT WORK REMINDED ME OF THE DMAIC AND SHARING OF IDEAS AND THOUGHTS IN THE LEAN SIX SIGMA ROOM IN THE RCBC TOWER. AMAZING THAT ONE "GREENBELT CERTIFICATE FROM LEAN SIX SIGMA " IN RETURN CAN IMPROVE NOT ONLY ONE BUT NUMEROUS PROJECTS IN THE WORKPLACE. GOOD JOB TO SIR REX AND THE SIX SIGMA PH TEAM - LIVE JESUS IN OUR HEARTS
To be certified in Lean Six Sigma, one has to complete an actual Lean Six Sigma project and apply process improvement tools, methodology, and techniques learned in class. "That's one reason why companies give high value to Certified Lean Six Sigma individuals. One does not just attend a program and receive his certification but has to successfully apply and show proper use of tools and methodology with actual work processes. One has to earn his Lean Six Sigma certification," Tuozo said.
